The Role
Your Role
As a Mainframe Storage Administrator, you’ll apply your expertise to the storage environments supporting customers’ mission-critical mainframe systems. You’ll be working across storage administration, replication, capacity and cyber resiliency, helping keep critical data available, protected and ready to support changing business needs.
You’ll take a hands-on role in maintaining and optimizing complex mainframe storage environments, including GDPS configurations, DFSMShsm, SMS and IBM storage technologies. You’ll monitor capacity and performance, investigate storage-related issues and support the upgrades, migrations and infrastructure changes needed to keep environments reliable and current.
Resilience will be a significant part of your work. You’ll support IBM replication technologies including PPRC, Metro Mirror, Global Mirror and HyperSwap, alongside FlashCopy, Safeguarded Copy and recovery capabilities. You’ll also contribute to cyber resiliency and disaster recovery activities, helping customers protect critical data and maintain recovery readiness.
Your work will balance day-to-day operational support with planned improvements. You’ll analyse storage utilisation and growth, identify performance or capacity issues and turn operational data into practical recommendations. You’ll collaborate directly with customers and other technical specialists on complex issues, infrastructure changes and resiliency initiatives.
What You Will Do
• Manage storage environments: Administer and support enterprise mainframe storage infrastructure across critical production environments
• Protect data resilience: Support GDPS and IBM replication environments, including PPRC, Metro Mirror, Global Mirror and HyperSwap capabilities
• Manage storage services: Administer and optimise DFSMShsm and SMS environments, including ACS routines and associated storage management processes
• Strengthen cyber resilience: Support technologies and processes including CSM, Safeguarded Copy, Cyber Vault operations, Thin Provisioning and point-in-time recovery
• Monitor and optimize: Analyze storage capacity, utilization and performance to identify trends, resolve constraints and support future capacity requirements
• Deliver infrastructure change: Support storage hardware and software upgrades, migrations and resiliency initiatives while maintaining production availability
• Find and fix: Investigate complex storage issues using relevant diagnostic utilities and work with IBM support where product expertise is required
• Turn data into action: Produce operational reporting and analysis that supports capacity planning, performance tuning and storage management decisions
