Job Description

We are looking for a Local Account Manager who is passionate about developing customers, building relationships, and growing business.

This role goes beyond maintaining the business we already have. We need someone who is curious, proactive, commercially minded, and motivated to uncover new opportunities for Expeditors. The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned customer relationships while continually looking for ways to deepen those relationships, understand the customer's business, and create opportunities for growth.

The Account Manager will be expected to understand more than what we currently do for a customer. We want someone who wants to learn how the customer operates, what they are trying to accomplish, what challenges they face, where they are growing, and where Expeditors can provide additional value.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys connecting with customers, asking good questions, developing relationships throughout an organization, and turning what they learn into meaningful business opportunities.

Success in this position will require both excellent customer management and a strong business development mindset.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Growth

• Actively identify and pursue opportunities to retain, develop, and grow business within assigned accounts.

• Develop a strong understanding of each customer's business, supply chain, priorities, challenges, and objectives.

• Look beyond the business we handle today to identify opportunities for additional Expeditors products, services, locations, and solutions.

• Demonstrate curiosity by asking meaningful questions and using customer knowledge to uncover needs and potential opportunities.

• Build and actively manage a pipeline of business opportunities, maintaining consistent ownership and follow-up.

• Turn customer needs and challenges into actionable opportunities by collaborating with the appropriate internal teams.

• Take ownership of business development activity and maintain momentum from initial discovery through solution development and implementation.

• Look for opportunities to introduce value-added solutions that strengthen the customer relationship and differentiate Expeditors.

Customer Development & Relationship Management

• Manage assigned customer accounts and maintain strong, consistent customer relationships.

• Develop relationships beyond the primary point of contact and across different levels and functions of the customer's organization.

• Become a trusted resource by understanding what matters to the customer and connecting those priorities to Expeditors' capabilities.

• Lead meaningful customer conversations that address both current performance and future business opportunities.

• Participate in and lead customer meetings and business reviews with clear objectives, actionable follow-up, and a focus on creating value.

• Deliver a high level of customer service while using strong service performance as a foundation for deeper relationships and future growth.

Account Ownership & Execution

• Partner closely with Product, Operations, Sales, and other internal teams to support customer needs and develop solutions.

• Identify, communicate, and help coordinate the resolution of service issues in a timely manner.

• Maintain accurate and timely customer information, meeting activity, opportunities, and follow-up actions in CRM.

• Monitor customer activity, performance, and business trends to identify potential risks as well as opportunities.

• Ensure customer requirements and expectations are clearly understood and communicated internally.

• Follow through on commitments and maintain accountability for customer and business-development actions.

• Continuously look for ways to improve the customer experience, account-management practices, and the value Expeditors provides.

• Experience in account management, customer service, business development, logistics, supply chain, or a related field.

• Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to clearly document and communicate customer requirements.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to coordinate issue resolution across teams.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain consistent follow-up.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other business systems or CRM tools, where applicable.

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Experience supporting complex customer accounts across multiple stakeholders or locations.
